Provide Legal Resources to the Central Kasai Bar Association (DRC)

As part of its initiative to support the Kasai Bar and its efforts to ensure adequate representation, due process, and fair trial for those charged with mass crimes committed during the 2016-2017 massacres in the Kasai region, UIA actively participated in an international effort to help secure essential legal texts and resources for the Central Kasaï Bar Association in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

On December 20, after weeks of preparation and follow-up, the Central Kasai Bar Association received a collection of more than 200 books including major legal codes, key textbooks and academic journals that will complete the Bar’s library and that are now available for free consultation to all the lawyers of the Bar. This was a successful joint effort across all sectors of the legal profession including UIA; LexisNexis France, which donated most of the books; the International Law Book Facility (ILBF), an organization whose mission is to provide legal books to lawyers and bar associations in need; and the law firm of Clifford Chance, whose employees packed the books.
