The European Convention on Human Rights was signed in Rome on 4 November 1950 becoming the first legal instrument that gave binding effect to the human rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The UIA wishes to mark this special 70th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights with leading figures who will take us to the 70 years journey of the Convention with the added rights such as the abolition of the death penalty, the protection of property, the rights to free elections and freedom of movement. We will celebrate its milestones and reflect on the challenges ahead, especially with the exit of the United Kingdom as European Member State.
