The food sector is a strategically significant industry for the global economy. In the session, speakers will illustrate: (i) the crucial role played by the financial institutions in facilitating such industry transformation (e.g. through loans and grants) and enhancing financial flows to sustainable, resilient, and fair food systems, (ii) how development banks can help reduce food loss and waste (FLW) along supply chains (e.g. financing modern infrastructures which can all limit FLW or launching products or vehicles that specifically target FLW reduction, such as sustainability-linked loans); (iii) the importance of the access to finance for smallholder farmers and the microfinance”; (iv) the green savings for agriculture: “Groupement foncier agricole d'épargnants (GFAE)”; (v) the international organizations (e.g. the World Bank, United Nations Environment Programme) initiatives and the Good Food Finance Network (GFFN); (vi) their experience in the field; and (vii) the agribusiness projects finance in Benin's Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ BENIN).
