More than 15 years ago, in 2006, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization published Livestock’s Long Shadow to raise awareness of the “very substantial contribution of animal agriculture to climate change and air pollution, to land, soil and water degradation and reduction of biodiversity.” Today the environment is in greater crisis, and the agriculture business plays a significant role, although often minimized or omitted from the discussion. This panel highlights the realities of agriculture, food safety, and security, and the governments, policies, and litigation driving the industry.
