The Business of Animal Law: The Global Impact of Animals and the Law; from July 19 to July 20, 2024; Wildlife Trafficking & Legal Tools To Combat It
Saving the wild – protecting endangered species, preserving biodiversity, and safeguarding economies and cultures dependent on those species -- is a global problem, but developing global solutions has been challenging. This session presents international perspectives on wildlife trafficking and conservation. It will explore the challenges and impacts of wildlife trafficking, the potential efficacy and limits of international treaties to combat it, and the role of individual state laws and their impact on demand for trafficked wildlife. This panel discusses the cultural, criminal, financial, and human consequences of the wildlife trade and the legal efforts to stop it.
