It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you the new collective book of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA) on the status of women and the rule of law, published by Larcier-Bruylant.
The book, under the patronage of the UIA and the scientific direction of Alain Grosjean, is the result of a year of work that brought together more than 50 authors who wished to contribute.
What is the status of women today? Although this status seems to have changed considerably since its inception, some discriminations still exist through laws, traditions and beliefs. The question is legal, political and sociological. To answer it, the book is based on:
The case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union on inequalities;
The contribution of the Istanbul Convention in the field of violence;
The actions of the Council of Europe to fight gender stereotypes, sexism and violence and to guarantee equal access to justice;
The initiatives of the Luxembourg Government in this field;
The testimony of Khadija Al-Salami, a filmmaker fighting against early marriages and promoting access to education for girls in Yemen;
Other testimonials from various backgrounds on equality at work, physical and psychological violence, women and sport, extortion of sexual favors, the role of women in the radicalization of men, religious freedom and labor law…
The book is partly in French and English.
All benefits will go to the Al-Baradoni association to financially supports the humanitarian actions of the director Khadija Al-Salami, including her commitment to the education of children in Yemen in a state of war.
