The Impact of AI on the Law: What’s Coming and How Do We Prepare to Deal With It
AI-based technological innovations, which are disruptive because of their rapid emergence, shift between risks and opportunities. That is why, as lawyers, we need to prepare ourselves and ensure that the laws guarantee that new technologies are placed at the service of people. Fundamental rights must be adapted to incorporate the new realities, in particular by protecting individuals against the consequences of any technological advances. Preventing risks and protecting people requires constant human monitoring and the introduction of effective mechanisms for controlling technological processes, particularly in areas where AI can have a decisive influence on important decision-making processes. In this context, avoiding cognitive biases, which lead to exclusionary or discriminatory results, is a challenge in both social and legislative terms. This session will examine the new reality and how to tackle it so that AI abides by the confidentiality of our data and digital rights as a whole.
