The Impact of Foreign Investment on Human Rights. Are Current Regulations Adequate or is there Room for Improvement?

The Human Rights and the Foreign Investment Commissions will be holding a joint session to discuss the effects of foreign investment on human rights and its impacts on migration, freedom of movement, and visa processes.
The question around which our debate will be focused is: Are current regulations adequate or is there room for improvement?
Foreign investments can be both positive and negative in terms of human rights.
On the positive side, foreign investment can lead to economic development, job opportunities, more access to education, healthcare, and other basic services that would help to reduce poverty, inequality and social exclussion, which in turn would mean the promotion of the rule of law and finally: improvements in human rights.
On the other hand, foreign investments could have a negative effect on human rights if they are not properly regulated. In particular, foreign investments could lead to exploitation of natural resources, displacement of local communities, and displacement of workers due to the introduction of new technologies among others.
At the same time, foreign investments and migration are two interrelated phenomena that have been inextricably linked together since the dawn of globalization. Migration is a fundamental component of human development, essential for the growth of nations. We will debate on the many obstacles that impede migrants from exercising their right to freedom of movement, including visa requirements, the cost of visas, and the complexity of the application process, preventing migrants in many cases from accessing economic opportunities, education, and health care.
