No Poverty and Zero Hunger
The Human Rights Commission has put the focus of their work on the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for the last three years. In our last meetings we have debated some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of UN (SDGs) such as gender equality (SDGs 5), clean water and sanitation (SDGs 6) reduced inequalities (SDGs 10) and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDGs 16). Continuing with our agenda and hosting the city of Rome the UN office for Food and Agriculture, the commission will concentrate on the first and second SDGs: No Poverty and Zero Hunger.
End of poverty in all its forms everywhere is the aimed, but more than 4 years of progress against poverty has been erased by Covid- 19. The rise in inflation and the impacts of the war in Ukraine have further delayed the progress. Where are we now in terms of meeting the first goal of the 2023 UN Agenda?
End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture would be the theme of the presentations and discussions in our second part of the session. Conflicts, Covid-19, climate change and growing inequalities are converging to undermine food security worldwide.
The speakers will interlink the 17 SDGs because each one of them and all of them as a unit are the only mean to implement and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
