8th World Congress against the death penalty – Resolution on the Need for Transparency in the Imposition and Application of the Death Penalty
The UIA-IROL joined the joint resolution initiated by the Paris Bar, IBAHRI, and the German Bar Association (Deutscher Anwaltverein – DAV), in the context of the 8th World Congress against the Death Penalty held in Berlin on November 15-18, 2022.
In the resolution, bar associations and lawyers’ organisations are called to mobilize in support of transparency in retentionist States with respect to data relating to the imposition and application of the death penalty; to advocate for the right to a fair trial and due process without discrimination for all those facing the death penalty; and to participate in international advocacy for transparency in the imposition and enforcement of the death penalty and worldwide abolition.
