The UIA condemned the murder of juge Mendoza Peña

The UIA condemned the murder of Mrs. Mireya Efigenia Mendoza Peña, a trial court judge in El Progreso, and undersecretary of the “Asociación Jueces por la Democracia” (Judges for Democracy Association) on July 23, 2013 in El Progreso, Yoro department.

The UIA is particularly concerned about the situation of Honduran lawyers. According to the Comisionado Nacional de los Derechos Humanos de Honduras (Conadeh) more than 60 legal practitioners have been killed in Honduras since 2010. At least two lawyers were murdered in August 2013. 97% of these crimes still go unpunished.
