The Rule of Law in the Era of Climate Change and International Migration
The World Bank estimates that by 2050 there will be 143 million climate refugees from sub-Sahara Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Causes include food shortages, sea level rise, and non-survivable temperatures. To avoid or minimize conflicts, laws and international treaties must be drafted or updated; populations must be educated as to the reason for this migration; and infrastructure for food, water, housing, and healthcare are necessary. We will examine the need for law and the Rule of Law in the successful implementation of these projects.
