Access to justice is an important human rights issue across the globe and essential to the Rule of Law, from the United States to Europe, Asia and beyond.
But restrictions imposed in response to COVID have presented challenges, and different governments have responded with a variety of measures. In this cross-border spanel, BASF joins with UIA, the world’s oldest association of international lawyers, to explore access to justice issues across the globe. Experts in justice access issues from Washington DC, Hungary and India will join Committee Vice Chair Lisa Reinsberg and BASF Member Jerry Roth (UIA President) in a discussion of how authorities have responded to the COVID crisis in ensuring – or denying – access to courts, lawyers and legal proceedings.
• Global impact of COVID to access to justice issues
• Resulting challenges to Human Rights and the Rule of Law
• Different approaches by different governments across continents
• Case studies: US, India, Hungary
