The UIA Condemns the Anti-democratic Acts of Violence in Brazil
The UIA condemns in its strongest terms the violent attacks that took place against the legitimately established democratic institutions in Brazil on January 8, 2023.
The UIA demands a full accounting of all who were responsible for this inexcusable assault on the Rule of Law, and requests the relevant Brazilian authorities to take all necessary measures to prevent and restrain any further illegitimate and non-institutional actions in accordance with national and international standards.
The UIA expresses its strongest support for, and solidarity with, the Brazilian Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil - OAB) and the Brazilian legal community as they actively mobilize to defend, uphold and protect the democratic institutions and the Rule of Law in their country.
The UIA’s support for the Rule of Law is unwavering. We will continue to closely monitor the situation.
