UIA condemns Hamas’s heinous attack on Israel and urges protection of innocent civilians - whether Israelis, Palestinians or foreign nationals - in accordance with the Rule of Law

UIA condemns in the strongest terms the appalling attacks orchestrated by Hamas in Israel causing an unprecedented number of civilian deaths. We are gravely alarmed by the abduction of civilians who are still being held hostage. Nothing can justify these abhorrent acts, which constitute violations of the Rule of Law, including international human rights and humanitarian law. UIA calls upon Hamas to immediately cease these attacks and release all hostages unharmed.

Under international law and international humanitarian law, civilians must be respected and protected, at all times and by all, even in a conflict situation. UIA, a global leader in defense of the Rule of Law, calls on all to respect these international laws and act accordingly to cease hostilities, especially those targeted at civilians; to allow access to humanitarian assistance to those in need; and to spare the lives of innocent people.
UIA supports all international diplomatic efforts calling for the prevention of the escalation of violence in the region and for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in accordance with the Rule of Law.
